Call first when water is active
If water is spreading, calling is the fastest route. The line at (805) 291-8940 is answered around the clock, and the person on the phone will ask where the water is coming from, which rooms are wet and whether anything electrical is involved.
While you wait for help, shut off the main water valve if the source is a supply line, lift valuables off wet floors, and keep people and pets out of any water that may be contaminated. Turn off power to wet areas only if you can reach the panel without standing in water. For any electrical or gas risk, call 911 or the utility before calling us.
What to have ready
You do not need everything below to call. It simply makes the first conversation shorter.
- The address and the nearest cross street or landmark, such as the Village or Heritage Square Park.
- Where the water started and whether it has been stopped.
- Which rooms and floors are wet, and what materials are involved, such as carpet, hardwood or drywall.
- Whether the water looks clean, gray or contaminated, and whether sewage is involved.
- Photos you have already taken, which are also useful if you file an insurance claim.
Non-urgent questions
For questions that can wait, such as how mitigation differs from repair, email [email protected]. Email is not monitored like the phone line, so never use it for active water.
